New Peabody Podcast Launches

The Peabody Awards and Center for Media & Social Impact Launch We Disrupt This Broadcast, New Podcast Featuring Interviews with Quinta Brunson, Damon Lindelof, Ramy Youssef, Pamela Adlon, Charlie Brooker, and More

 

New Podcast to Feature Acclaimed TV Creatives as They Delve Into the Inner Workings and Cultural Significance of Shows That Are Changing the Rules and Shaping the Future

 

ATHENS, GA (April 11, 2024) – Quinta Brunson, Damon Lindelof, Ramy Youssef, Pamela Adlon, Charlie Brooker, and more medium-defining industry showrunners and writers are the featured guests on We Disrupt This Broadcast, a new podcast debuting this month from the Peabody Awards in partnership with the Center for Media & Social Impact ​​and distributed by public media organization PRX.

We Disrupt This Broadcast features intimate interviews with award-winning television creatives shaping the future of entertainment with disruptive new narratives and creative approaches. The monthly podcast is hosted by Gabe González (comedian, writer and actor) as well as guest hosts Joyelle Nicole Johnson (actress, writer, and stand up comedian), Caty Borum (executive director of the Center for Media & Social Impact), and Jeffrey Jones (executive director of The Peabody Awards).

An audio trailer is available now alongside two episodes featuring Damon Lindelof (The Leftovers) and Quinta Brunson (Abbott Elementary). New episodes will be released monthly, the second Thursday of every month. The podcast is available free on-demand across all major podcast platforms, including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Amazon Music, iHeart, and Overcast.

We Disrupt This Broadcast focuses on industry disruption through some of today’s most powerful and compelling television narratives from critically-acclaimed creatives, shows that are re-imagining the world and tackling the big issues that move us forward. From intimate interviews with award-winning TV creatives to real talk with social movement leaders, We Disrupt This Broadcast highlights the inner workings and cultural relevance of the shows that are changing all the rules and shaping the future.

Host Gabe González is a Puerto Rican comedian, writer and actor who can be seen in Season 4 of The Last OG, the HBO Latino documentary Habla y Vota, and Audible’s The Comedians. He was featured in Brooklyn Magazine’s “30 Under 30” in 2017, Time Out New York’s ‘Comedians of Color You Should Know’ in 2018 and his pilot “Los Blancos” was a winner at the Yes And Laughter Lab in 2019. Guest host Joyelle Nicole Johnson is a Brooklyn-based stand up comedian, writer and actress.  She can be seen on the final season of HBO’s Crashing and performing alongside some of the biggest names in comedy. Caty Borum is an award-winning media producer, book author, professor, and engaged scholar working at the intersection of entertainment storytelling, and social good. She serves as Executive Director of the Center for Media & Social Impact (CMSI), a creative innovation lab and research center housed at American University’s School of Communication that produces, showcases, and studies media and social change, including the GoodLaugh brand, which uses humor to engage in issues of social importance she is also the Provost Associate Professor in the School of Communication. Jeffrey P. Jones, Ph.D., is the Executive Director of the George Foster Peabody Awards at the University of Georgia, and Lambdin Kay Chair for the Peabodys in the Department of Entertainment & Media Studies.
