Peabody Giving Day 2019 is almost here and this year is special because we’re paying tribute to the late Barry Sherman, former director of the Peabody Awards (1991-2000) and telecommunications professor in the Grady College. Sherman considered the Peabody Awards a “sacred trust” and is credited with raising the program’s national profile and reputation during his tenure. He died unexpectedly on May 2, 2000, during a lunchtime basketball game on campus. “Barry was passionate about Peabody and teaching. I still hear stories from former students about his influence on their education and careers,” his widow, Candy Sherman, said. “I know he’d appreciate how Peabody has evolved while continuing to celebrate excellence and offer students unique learning experiences.”
As a tribute to Sherman and his legacy, please share your memories and make a gift in his honor on Peabody Giving Day. Although our official Peabody Giving Day doesn’t start until tomorrow, you can support our efforts by making a gift TODAY here:
