WMAZ Radio for Reporting and Interpretation of the News
WMAZ Radio
(Honorable Mention: Institutional) Reporting the news is a responsibility generally recognized by broadcasters. But no station anywhere did a better job in 1949 with news, especially local news, than WMAZ of Macon, Georgia. Devoting 140 of 1170 minutes of broadcast time each day to news, spending some $50,000 during the year on its local news coverage, and discouraging any kind of advertising support which might in any way jeopardize reporting of the facts, this station may well serve as a model for those that would do a better news job. As a matter of fact, it has and does, and in recognition thereof is hereby awarded this special George Foster Peabody Citation in the news category.
